KCB Rugby Football Club and Mwamba Ladies were crowned the overall champions of the 2026 37th edition of the George Mwangi Kabeberi 7s after successfully defending their respective men’s and women’s titles at the RFUEA Grounds-Ngong Road, Nairobi on Sunday evening.
KCB retained the men’s crown after edging Strathmore Leos 14-12 in a thrilling final, while Mwamba Ladies saw off Kenya Harlequins Ladies 12-7 to retain the women’s title.
The victory saw KCB make history as the only side to win the Kabeberi 7s five consecutive times, having dominated the third leg of the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit since 2022.
Mwamba Ladies and Kenya Harlequins Ladies also renewed their rivalry in the final, replicating the Dala 7s showdown and underlining the two sides’ growing dominance of women’s rugby on the circuit.
In the men’s Division 2, NYS Spades produced a spirited display to claim the title after dismantling Stalions RFC 14-0 in the final. Their victory earned them automatic promotion to Division 1 for next weekend’s Driftwood 7s in Mombasa.
Impala Roans secured third place in the women’s category after defeating promising Pioneer Ladies 25-5, while Menengai Oilers finished third in the men’s competition following a closely contested 25-20 victory over Kenya Harlequins.
Hosts Mwamba settled for fifth place, a slight drop from their showing at the previous leg in Kisumu a fortnight ago.
With the 2026 Kabeberi 7s now concluded, attention shifts to the fourth leg of the SportPesa National Sevens Circuit, the Driftwood 7s, which will be held next weekend at Mombasa Sports Club.
The Mombasa leg promises another intense battle as Kenya’s top sevens sides continue their pursuit of circuit honor’s.
