The second day of the 37th George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens took a dramatic turn as Dala 7s champions Kabras Sugar RFC and hosts Mwamba Rugby Club suffered Main Cup quarter-final exits.

Menengai Oilers produced one of the biggest results of the knockout stage, edging Kabras Sugar 12-7 to book their place in the semi-finals, while Kenya Harlequins narrowly saw off hosts Mwamba 7-5 in another closely contested quarter-final.

Defending champions KCB Rugby Club also survived a spirited challenge from Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad, fighting back to secure a 10-7 victory and keep their title defence firmly on course.

In the varsity derby, Strathmore Leos proved too strong for Daystar Falcons, cruising to a 27-12 victory to complete the semi-final line-up.

With the quarter-finals now settled, attention immediately shifts to the semi-finals, where the battle for the 37th Kabeberi 7s title enters its decisive stage.

Kenya Harlequins will face defending champions KCB Rugby Club in the first semi-final in a repeat of the Dala 7s quarter-final clash. Both sides have maintained a perfect 100 per cent winning record at Kabeberi and will meet in what promises to be another high-intensity encounter.

The second semi-final will see Menengai Oilers take on a rejuvenated Strathmore Leos, with both sides arriving after impressive quarter-final displays.

The women’s competition will also produce a repeat of the Dala 7s final, with Kenya Harlequins Ladies facing traditional rivals Mwamba Ladies in the final after both sides recorded emphatic semi-final victories.

Harlequins Ladies dispatched Pioneer Ladies 34-0, while Mwamba Ladies swept aside Impala Roans 31-0, setting the stage for another highly anticipated encounter between the two sides.

With the Main Cup finalists now one step away from confirmation, the battle for the 37th edition of the Kabeberi 7s title is reaching its defining moments.
