Former Menengai Oilers and Kenya Sevens international Denis Abukuse was the star of the match as Westshore Rugby Club stormed to an 89–12 victory over Bayside in their third league match played on Saturday at South Surrey Athletic Park.
Abukuse played the full 80 minutes and marked his Westshore debut with a hat-trick as his new side produced a commanding performance.
The former Shujaa player was at the heart of Westshore’s attacking display, using his experience, pace and finishing ability to cause constant problems for Bayside.
Westshore dominated proceedings from the opening whistle, piling on the points as they turned their superiority into a comfortable victory, with Abukuse crossing the whitewash three times to cap an impressive individual outing.
Speaking to Two5Four after the match, Abukuse was delighted with his start but was quick to credit his teammates for helping him settle into the side.
“I’m really happy with the performance. The boys made it easy for me, and it was a good team effort. Getting three tries is a good feeling, but the most important thing is that we got the win and put in a strong performance.”
The 89–12 result gives Westshore valuable momentum as they continue their league campaign, while Abukuse’s performance provides plenty of encouragement following his move to the club.
