Kenya’s national teams made a promising start to the 28th edition of the Safari Sevens, with Shujaa, Kenya Lionesses and Kenya Morans recording victories on day two of the three-day tournament at Nyayo National Stadium.
The tournament kicked off on Friday, October 9, with Saturday, October 10, marking day two as teams continue their push for places in the knockout stages.
Shujaa opened their campaign with a 21-21 draw against Fast Forward 7s yesterday before registering a 22-0 victory over Scotland today at Nyayo Stadium. They completed their opening three fixtures with a 21-5 win over Uganda Select, remaining unbeaten.
Kenya Morans also enjoyed a strong start, beating Gel Squad 7s 38-17 before dispatching Wonder 7s 40-12. They were, however, held to a 12-12 draw by Zimbabwe in their third outing.
In the women’s category, the Kenya Lionesses recorded three consecutive victories. They began with a 19-5 win over the Junior Lionesses, thrashed Tuks Women 43-0 and edged Tunisia 19-17 in a closely contested encounter.
The Junior Lionesses faced a difficult opening day, losing 19-5 to the senior Lionesses, 17-14 to Tunisia and 31-7 to Uganda.
Kenya Shibli also struggled to find their footing, narrowly falling 17-15 to Tunisia before suffering defeats against Uganda (17-14) and Tuks Women (17-7).
With the second day underway, Shujaa, Morans and Lionesses will be looking to build on their unbeaten starts as competition intensifies at the annual rugby sevens showpiece.
The 2026 Safari Sevens runs until Sunday, October 11, at Nyayo National Stadium.
