National sevens circuit defending champions KCB Rugby Club maintained a dominant start to the 60th Christie Sevens after registering three straight victories during Saturday’s pool matches at the RFUEA Grounds.
The bankers were ruthless in attack, recording back-to-back 40-5 victories over MMUST Rugby Club and Club Afrique before signing off the pool stage with a 20-7 win over Kenya Harlequin.
Their perfect run puts KCB firmly among the leading contenders for the Main Cup as the tournament enters the knockout stages tomorrow.
Club Afrique also impressed in Pool A, recovering from their 40-5 defeat to KCB to beat MMUST 24-19 in the third round. The invitational outfit had earlier stunned Kenya Harlequin 26-19 in their opening fixture.
The Pan-African side will now look to carry their impressive form into the knockout rounds.
In Pool B, Kabras Sugar Rugby Club were equally impressive, winning all three of their matches.
Kabras opened with a 12-5 victory over NYS Spades before beating Mean Machine 22-7. They completed their unbeaten run with a 19-7 victory against KU Blak Blad.
NYS Spades finished strongly after recovering from their opening loss to Kabras. They beat Blak Blad 19-7 before edging Mean Machine 12-10.
Menengai Oilers emerged as the leading side in Pool C, winning all three matches.
Oilers began with a 17-10 victory over Strathmore Leos, followed it up with a 19-14 win against Kisumu RFC and then produced a 34-14 victory over Nondescripts RFC.
Strathmore bounced back from their opening defeat to beat Nondies 26-0 and Kisumu 26-15, while Kisumu also suffered a 17-14 defeat to Nondies in the opening round.
Daystar Falcons were the standout team in Pool D, registering an impressive three wins.
They demolished Embu RFC 44-0 in their opening match before beating Impala RFC 46-10. Daystar completed their pool campaign with a 33-12 victory over Mwamba RFC.
Embu ended their pool campaign on a positive note, beating Impala 24-15.
With the pool matches concluded, the focus now shifts to the knockout stage, where the leading teams will battle for honours at the historic 60th edition of the Christie Sevens.
