Tononoka, Moi Forces Crowned Mombasa County Rugby 7s Champions

Tononoka Secondary School and Moi Forces Academy emerged as the boys’ and girls’ champions respectively at the 2026 Mombasa County Secondary Schools Rugby 7s championship played on Thursday and Friday at Refinery,Changamwe, securing tickets to the Coast Region games set to be held in Kwale on dates yet to be announced.

Tononoka capped off an impressive campaign by edging Frere Town 5-0 in a tightly contested boys’ final. The champions had earlier booked their place in the decider with a 19-0 victory over Likoni in the semi-finals.

Frere Town reached the final after overcoming Khamis Secondary School 24-5 in the other semi-final but could not find a way past a resilient Tononoka side in the championship match.

The winners had looked strong throughout the tournament, opening their campaign with a 12-7 win over Frere Town before thrashing Bomu 36-0 and Miritini Complex 34-0 in the preliminary rounds.

Frere Town settled for second place, while Khamis and Likoni finished third and fourth respectively. Kajembe, Maweni, Miritini Complex and Bomu completed the final standings.

In the girls’ category, Moi Forces Academy proved unstoppable as they stormed to the county title with emphatic victories in all their matches. They opened their campaign with a 50-0 win over Maweni before dismantling Bomu 57-0 to seal the championship.

Maweni finished second after defeating Bomu 15-0, while Bomu settled for third place.

The county champions will now shift their focus to the Coast Region Secondary Schools Games in Kwale, where they will battle for qualification to the national championships.
