Kenya Harlequins stun KCB as Oilers, Kabras and Mwamba reach Dala 7s semi-final
The 2026 Dala 7s title race is down to four teams after an action-packed quarter-final round at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday, with Kenya Harlequins, Menengai Oilers, Kabras Sugar and Mwamba RFC booking their places in the Cup semi-finals.
The biggest upset of the day came in the opening quarter-final as Kenya Harlequins edged defending champions KCB Rugby 14-12 in a pulsating encounter to end the bankers’ hopes of retaining the Dala 7s crown. The victory also marked the first time in eight SportPesa National Sevens Circuit tournaments that KCB have failed to reach a Cup semi-final.
Menengai Oilers produced the most dominant display of the quarter-finals, overpowering Zetech Oaks 33-7 to comfortably seal their place in the last four. The Nakuru-based side continued their impressive run after topping their pool on Saturday and now head into the semi-finals full of confidence.
Kabras Sugar also advanced with a commanding 29-5 victory over Daystar Falcons. The Sugarmen controlled proceedings from start to finish, keeping their quest for a first title of the 2026 National Sevens Circuit season alive.
The final quarter-final delivered the closest finish of the day as Mwamba RFC held off Strathmore Leos 15-14 in a thrilling contest. Mwamba’s resilience saw them survive a late Leos comeback to secure the final semi-final berth.
The results set up two mouthwatering Cup semi-final clashes, with giant killers Kenya Harlequins taking on Menengai Oilers, while Kabras Sugar will battle Mwamba RFC for a place in the Dala 7s final.
