Defending champions Zetech Oaks, Menengai Oilers and KCB RFC maintained their unbeaten starts as the second edition of the HelaBet Juja 7s pool matches came to a close on Saturday at the JKUAT Main Campus.
Zetech once again underlined their title credentials after winning all three of their Pool B matches. The defending champions opened with a 29-7 victory over USIU before thrashing Kiambu 43-0 and sealing top spot with a 24-5 win over Suburbs.
Menengai Oilers were equally impressive in Pool D, beginning their campaign with a 38-0 win over Blizzards before defeating KCA University 33-7. The Nakuru-based side then completed a flawless pool stage by edging KCB Cubs 19-5 to finish top of their group.
KCB also enjoyed a perfect day in Pool C, registering three consecutive victories without conceding a point. The bankers brushed aside Pioneer BUEA 34-0, overcame Makueni 17-0 and wrapped up the pool stage with a convincing 24-7 victory over Stallions.
In Pool A, JKUAT Cougars secured a 5-0 win over Makueni Wakan and 28-07 over MKU Thika before falling 17-5 to Kenyatta University, who also defeated Makueni Wakan 28-0 to finish strongly.
Elsewhere, Suburbs beat Kiambu 24-7 before losing to both Zetech and USIU, while USIU recovered from their opening defeat to the champions by beating Kiambu 36-0.
In the remaining pools, CUEA drew 12-12 with Homeboyz after opening with a 22-5 win over Gachie and later edging Machine 12-0. Machine had earlier shared the spoils 5-5 with Homeboyz before bouncing back with a 36-0 victory over Gachie.
Makueni Wakan recovered from an opening loss to JKUAT to defeat Stallions 12-0, MKU Thika 10-0 and Pioneer BUEA 7-0, while KCB Cubs finished second in Pool D after beating KCA University 43-7 and Blizzards 38-0 before losing to Menengai Oilers.
The quarter-final lineup tomorrow will now see the unbeaten sides looking to carry their momentum into the knockout stages as the battle for the Juja 7s title intensifies.
