Khadambi Parts Ways with SC Pirates After One Season

KRU championship outfit South Coast Pirates have confirmed the departure of head coach Tony Lujesi Khadambi following the expiry of his one-year contract, bringing an end to his stint with the Diani-based side.

The former KCB, Impala, Hoemboyz RFC and Kenya U20 international was appointed pirates boss on 12th September 2025 as a replacement for Kevin Amiani and leaves after one season.

The club confirmed the development through Secretary General Okoth Ombache, who thanked Khadambi for his commitment and contribution during his time in charge.

“Yesterday marked the end of Head Coach Tony Khadambi’s one-year journey with the Pirates Rugby family. As his contract concluded, we officially say goodbye to a coach who gave his all to the jersey over the past season,” Ombache said in a club statement.

“Tony stepped into the role with a clear vision and worked tirelessly to push our squad forward. While we are sad to see him go, we are incredibly grateful for his dedication, passion, and the energy he brought to the pitch. We wish him nothing but the very best in his next chapter and thank him for his commitment to the Pirates.”

Khadambi leaves after guiding the Pirates to a third-place finish in the 2025/26 KRU Championship season, where the coastal side collected 38 points to secure a place in the promotion playoffs.

Despite an impressive league campaign, the Pirates fell short of their ambition to return to the Kenya Cup after suffering defeat to Homeboyz RFC in the promotion playoff, ending their hopes of securing top-flight status.

The club has confirmed that preparations for the new season are already underway, with the process of restructuring the technical bench expected to begin immediately.

“Preparations for the upcoming season are already underway, and we will keep you posted on our coaching structure in due course. The journey continues, and we appreciate your unwavering support as always,” Ombache added.

South Coast Pirates are expected to announce a new head coach in the coming weeks as they begin preparations for the upcoming campaign.
