A total of 24 secondary schools have confirmed participation in the 11th edition of the Western Black Rock 7s tournament set for May 9–10, 2026, at Mukumu Boys High School in Kakamega County.
The annual rugby festival, which has steadily grown into one of the region’s most competitive school 7s tournaments since its inception, will feature 12 boys’ teams and 12 girls’ teams battling for top honours over the two-day event.
Speaking to Two5four Rugby, tournament founder and director Matayo Mwenesi expressed excitement ahead of this year’s edition, noting the steady growth and impact of the competition on school rugby.
“We are proud to see how far the Black Rock 7s has come over the years. This tournament continues to provide a platform for young talent to showcase their skills and gain exposure. This year’s lineup is very competitive, and we expect high-quality rugby across both the boys’ and girls’ categories,” said Mwenesi.
Boys’ Teams
Mukumu Lions, Mukumu Cubs, Bokoli Falcons, Vihiga High School, Chavakali High School, Chebuyusi High School, Kimobo Boys, Esalwa Boys, Agorosare Boys, Otieno Oyoo High School, Kakamega School, and Kwale High School.
Girls’ Teams
Kinale Girls, Mukumu Girls, Kimobo 1 Girls, Kimobo 2 Girls, Sidindi A, Sidindi B, Mwira Girls A, Mwira Girls B, Madira Girls, St Anne’s Musoli, Nyagichenche Girls, and Nyakongo Girls.
In last year’s edition, Senende High School edged Kakamega School to lift the boys’ title, while Kinale Girls defeated St Joseph Girl’s ‘Joga’ to clinch the girls’ crown.
