Defending champions Kabras Sugar RFC have named a formidable squad for Saturday’s highly anticipated Kenya Cup final against KCB Rugby set for the ASK Kakamega Showground from 3pm.
The Sugarmen head into the final chasing a historic fifth consecutive Kenya Cup title, a feat that would further cement their dominance in Kenyan rugby. Having established themselves as the team to beat over the past four seasons.
Head coach Carlos Katywa has retained the core of the side that has impressed throughout the campaign, with Emmanuel Otieno starting at fullback while Eric Cantona and Mathias Osimbo provide firepower on the wings. Bryceson Adaka and Derrick Ashiundu pair up in midfield as Walter Okoth pulls the strings at fly-half alongside youthful scrum-half Roy Maruti.
In the forwards, captain George Nyambua leads a powerful pack that includes Patrick Odhiambo and Jeanson Misoga in the back row. The second row pairing of Hillary Odhiambo and Shem Joseph will be tasked with controlling the set pieces against a physical KCB outfit.
Kabras have also named an experienced bench capable of impacting the game late on, with Brian Tanga and Ntabeni Dukisa among the backs expected to provide attacking spark if called upon.
The clash is expected to attract a huge crowd in Kakamega as the rivalry between the two Kenyan rugby giants continues. KCB will be aiming to dethrone the champions and deny Kabras a historic five-peat, while the Sugarmen will be eager to once again prove why they remain the standard bearers of local rugby.
