Former Kenya Lionesses Coach Dies in US Road Accident

Kenyan rugby is in mourning following the tragic death of former Kenya Lionesses head coach Felix Oloo, who passed away after a road accident in the United States on Monday 4th May.

Authorities in Bothell confirmed that Oloo, 41, was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Interstate 405 in an early morning incident that remains under investigation. The crash occurred at approximately 3 a.m. near NE 160th Street after he had exited a vehicle parked on the shoulder. According to the Washington State Patrol, Oloo was hit by a northbound vehicle, whose driver reported the incident and is cooperating fully with investigators. The northbound lanes were closed for over three hours as officers processed the scene.

Oloo’s rugby journey began at Nakuru RFC in the early 2000s, where he rose through the ranks as a hardworking flanker. Joining the club in 2003, he played a key role in their historic 2012–2013 Kenya Cup triumph, while also lifting the Enterprise Cup and featuring in competitions such as the Bamburi Super Series.

Beyond his playing career, Oloo was deeply committed to nurturing young talent. In 2011, he led a group of under-14 players to a tournament in the United Kingdom, where they finished second. His efforts were recognized in 2017 when he was named Safaricom SOYA Community Coach of the Year.

In 2019, Oloo took charge of the Kenya Lionesses, guiding the side through a period of growth, including their push toward the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the 2021 Rugby World Cup qualifiers. He later expanded his coaching career internationally, joining Barrhaven Scottish RFC in Canada after attaining World Rugby Level 2 certification.

In a statement, Nakuru RFC paid tribute:
