Former Kabras RFC winger and current Nondescripts RFC speedster Lamec Ambetsa is set to make his highly anticipated return to competitive rugby when the National Sevens Circuit kicks off this July.
The 23-year-old Olympian has been away from the pitch for the better part of the 2025/26 Kenya Cup season following his switch to Nondies, opting to take a step back from the game to focus on life beyond rugby.
During that period, Ambetsa channeled his energy into building his future off the field, successfully launching his own engineering company on May 10, 2025.
The company specializes in construction services, as well as the supply of building and hardware materials. Speaking to Two5four, Ambetsa opened up about the journey of balancing rugby and business, and his motivation behind stepping away temporarily.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to step back from rugby because it’s something I love deeply. But I had to think about my future as well. I started my company called ENNLAM CONSTRUCTION
last year, and it deals with construction services and supply of building and hardware materials. It’s something I’m really proud of because it’s growing steadily,” said Ambetsa.
With his business now stable, the pacey winger says he is ready to reignite his rugby career, starting with the shorter format of the game.
“Now that things are in a good place, I feel ready to come back and compete again. The 7s circuit is always exciting, and I’m looking forward to getting back on the field, contributing to the team, and enjoying the game again,” he added.
