Shujaa Left Searching for Answers After Winless Pool Stage in Bordeaux

Kenya Sevens rugby team finished their pool-stage campaign at the HSBC SVNS World Championship event in Bordeaux, France, without a win after losing 14-5 to Great Britain on Saturday morning.

The defeat marked Kenya’s third loss in a row and saw the team end the pool phase at the bottom of their group. Shujaa’s campaign got off to a difficult start with a 31-12 defeat to Fiji in their opening match. Patrick Okong’o and Kevin Wekesa scored Kenya’s tries, but Fiji proved too strong and secured a comfortable victory.

Kenya then faced South Africa in a must-win encounter later on Day One. However, the Blitzboks continued Kenya’s struggles with a 26-5 victory. George Ooro scored Shujaa’s only try of the match, but it was not enough to stop the South Africans from claiming maximum points.

Heading into their final pool match against Great Britain, Kenya needed a strong performance to revive their hopes. But once again, Shujaa fell short. Great Britain took control of the contest and kept Kenya at bay for most of the match. Patrick Odongo crossed the whitewash in the final minute to score Kenya’s only try, but the conversion by David Nyangige drifted wide as Great Britain held on for a 14-5 win.

The result leaves Shujaa still searching for their first victory in Bordeaux as they look ahead to the next phase of the tournament.
