World Rugby has unveiled the second edition of its influential ‘A Blueprint for Growth’ report, reinforcing women’s rugby as a central force shaping the sport’s global expansion. The updated analysis offers the most in-depth assessment to date of the trends driving rugby’s rising relevance, commercial potential, and worldwide reach.
Built on comprehensive research conducted in early 2025 across seven major markets, the report delivers a strategic roadmap for unions, governments, and competition owners to accelerate investment, participation, and fan development. Insights from the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 are also included, reflecting a sport growing rapidly through innovation, data-driven planning, and a strong global community.
The findings highlight significant momentum: nearly half of women’s rugby fans are new in the last two years, with 55% expecting their interest to increase. Visibility remains key, with 53% discovering the sport through broadcast or streaming and 39% attributing their engagement to increased player exposure. Women’s rugby also continues to attract younger and more diverse audiences, with major tournaments proving powerful gateways for new fans.
The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 set historic benchmarks across ticket sales, broadcast hours, digital engagement, and sponsorship revenue—evidence of a thriving commercial ecosystem. Fans also view brands as important contributors to women’s rugby visibility, with 42% more likely to discuss companies that support the women’s game.
World Rugby’s Chief of Women’s Rugby Sally Horrox noted that the findings reflect a transformational era: “Women’s rugby is not just growing; it is reshaping the future of our sport. The commercial and community opportunities ahead are significant.”
World Rugby will continue to collaborate globally to ensure this momentum drives long-term, sustainable growth for the women’s game and the wider sport.
