Wazee Prevail Over Vijana in Tight Weekend Rugby Battles

Rugby veterans proved their experience still counts as Wazee sides dominated their Vijana counterparts in weekend fixtures played in Kiambu and Diani.

At Zetech Grounds, the Zetech Wazee battled to a hard-fought 17–15 victory over the youthful Vijana side in a tense and entertaining match.

The veterans got off to a strong start, with Johnson Wafula and Brayan Ondego crossing the whitewash early on. Jackson Mangale added a conversion, putting Wazee 12–5 ahead at halftime after Roy Anjes scored Vijana’s only first-half try.

In the second half, Vijana mounted a comeback through Joseph Nun, who slotted a penalty, scored a try, and converted it to turn the game around for a 15–12 lead. However, the Wazee dug deep and sealed victory with a late try from Stanley Mbuthia, ensuring the experienced side walked away 17–15 winners.

Meanwhile, in Diani, the South Coast Pirates Wazee also triumphed, defeating the Vijana 13–5 at Secreast Grounds.

Former club chairman Kevin Nduhiu dotted down for the Wazee, with current club Secretary General Chris Egesa converting and later adding a penalty. Egesa’s accurate boot proved decisive as Alex Nyokabi managed the lone try for the Vijana.

The matches were used as part of clubs culture to usher in a new KRU championship season that kicksoff in November 16th.
