Toli steps down as Uganda 7s Head Coach

Tolbert Onyango has stepped down as Head Coach of the Uganda National Rugby Sevens Team after a 10-year stint.

In a statement, the Uganda Rugby Union noted that Onyango, who was unveiled as Head Coach of Ugandan club side Heathens in May this year,  played an important role in the development of the sevens program, citing his leadership in guiding the team to multiple Africa Rugby Sevens Championships, achieving Uganda’s best finishes at international competitions, and improving the team’s global rankings. The Union also highlighted his contribution to nurturing young players into the national team setup and promoting a culture of discipline, teamwork, and resilience.

Following Onyango’s departure, the Uganda Rugby Union announced the appointment of Otim Allan as the caretaker Head Coach of the Uganda Sevens. The Union stated that Allan has worked closely with Onyango and brings experience and familiarity with the team’s systems.

According to the Union, Allan will be expected to build on the existing foundation and provide continuity as the team prepares for upcoming competitions.
