Kenya Shujaa displayed their strength in the second round of the 27th edition of the Safari 7s tournament with a dominant 28-19 win against the UK Select.
Kenya opened the scoring through Patrick Odongo off Festus Shiasi’s offload to take a 5-0 lead, before Nygel Amaitsa added the conversion to make it 7-0.
In the final minute of the first half, Amaitsa sliced through a disorganised defence to score his own try and converted it to extend Shujaa’s lead to 14-0.
In the second half, the UK Select side, eager to bounce back, scored their first try to narrow the gap to 14-5 after a missed conversion. They kept up the pressure and managed another converted try to make it 14-12.
Kenya then made a tactical substitution, sending Patrick Odongo to the bench for Floyd Wabwire. The UK Select were later reduced to six men after a sin bin, allowing Shujaa to capitalise on the advantage. Wabwire made an instant impact, scoring twice to seal the game at 28-12.
The UK side managed a late try after breaking through the Kenyan defence, closing the score at 28-19 after a successful conversion.
