Scotland silence England at Murrayfield

Scotland tore up the script at Murrayfield Stadium, ending England’s 12-Test winning streak with a stunning 31–20 victory in the Six Nations Championship on Saturday.

Favored to win in Edinburgh for the first time since 2020, England arrived with momentum, depth and confidence. They left outplayed, outpaced and ultimately outclassed.

Russell Conducts Early Blitz

Masterfully orchestrated by Finn Russell, Scotland exploded into life, racing to a 17–0 lead inside 14 minutes.

A one-handed flick from Russell under pressure set up centre Huw Jones for the opener. Moments later, Russell sliced through again before captain Sione Tuipulotu delivered a long pass for flanker Jamie Ritchie to stroll over.

England winger Henry Arundell briefly halted the surge after returning from an earlier sin-bin to score, with George Ford adding points from the tee.

But Scotland struck again before halftime. Russell chipped cleverly, prop Ellis Genge fumbled, and scrum-half Ben White pounced. Arundell’s second yellow card — upgraded to a 20-minute red — compounded England’s misery.

Jones Makes History

Ford kept England within reach with flawless kicking, but Scotland’s cutting edge proved decisive. A charged-down drop goal by Matt Fagerson sparked a counterattack finished by Jones for his second try — Scotland’s bonus-point fourth.

The brace elevated Jones to 18 Six Nations tries since 2000, the most in that period, and eight against England — another record.

Russell was immaculate from the tee, landing all five conversions to erase memories of last year’s costly miss in this fixture.

Townsend’s Statement Night

Under-pressure coach Gregor Townsend, marking his 100th Test in charge, watched his side produce arguably their sharpest performance in years. After last week’s defeat to Italy, the response was emphatic.

England closed with a late try to No.8 Ben Earl, but the contest had long been settled.
