SC Pirates Land Ombaso and Kenya International Iddo deals

Diani-based KRU championship side South Coast Pirates RFC have moved decisively in the December transfer market, unveiling a raft of new signings as they fine-tune their squad ahead of the ongoing 2025/26 Championship campaign.

The Sea Robbers have reinforced their squad with the acquisition of Shamberere insitute RFC trio of props Ian Tirop, Bravin Bukenya and Center Andrew Barasa as they look to strengthen their attacking options.

Pirates have also landed experienced backrower and former Kenya U20 international Iddo Kuta, whose rugby journey has seen him feature for Walukuba RFC in Uganda before joining Daystar Falcons on an educational transfer from Kenya Harlequin. In a deal involving the capital-based side, Pirates reached an agreement with Harlequin to secure Kuta’s services, while allowing winger Brighton Omondi to complete a move to Quins.

Further boosting their ranks, the Diani outfit have completed the signing of highly rated flyhalf Cyprian Ombaso from Nakuru RFC. Ombaso enjoyed a stellar 7s season with Nakuru, catching the eye with his game management and attacking flair, and is expected to play a key role in Pirates’ backline this season.

Speaking to Two5four Rugby, head coach Lujesi Khadambi said the club’s recruitment drive was carefully planned.

“These signings were very strategic. We identified key areas that needed strengthening and brought in players who not only add quality but also fit into the culture and style of play we want to build at SC Pirates,” said Khadambi.

SC Pirates will waste no time in testing their new-look squad, as they open their season with an away fixture against neighbours Mombasa RFC on January 10th, in what promises to be a fiery Coast derby to kick off the year.
