Rugby Africa Women’s 7s Champions Through The Years

Nairobi’s RFUEA Grounds will host the 2025 Rugby Africa Women’s 7s on 15–16 November, marking the second time Kenya will stage the continental tournament after first doing so in Machakos in 2014.

As excitement builds for the event, Two5Four Rugby looks back at the previous winners — the nations that have left their mark on Africa’s premier women’s sevens competition.

No team has enjoyed more success than South Africa, who have claimed the title a record 11 times (2006, 2007, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024). The Springbok Women have been unstoppable in the final, maintaining a perfect record every time they’ve reached the championship match.

Only Kenya and Tunisia have broken that dominance. Tunisia lifted the trophy in 2012, while Kenya’s Lionesses earned their historic victory in 2018. The Lionesses have also been among the most consistent sides, finishing as runners-up seven times (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2023, 2024).

Uganda have been close contenders too, finishing second four times (2006, 2007, 2008, 2018).
