The 2025 Dala 7s quarterfinals served up an entertaining rugby feast, but it was George Ooro returned to punish his immediate former employer Strathmore Leos with a brace that dominated the headlines as KCB RFC edged Strathmore Leos 15-14 to book their place in the last four, only for the bankers to be declared winners of the National Sevens Circuit before the semifinals were even played.

Kabras Sugar were the first to storm into the semis after a tough 19-5 win over Nondescripts. Matthias Osimbo opened the scoring for the sugarmen before Nondies’ Tony Fidens responded to close the gap. Kabras, however, tightened their grip with tries from Eric Cantona and Kevin Wekesa, the latter manufactured by Rayvon Ambale’s brilliant play. With a disciplined defensive display in the second half, Kabras held on to advance.

Menengai Oilers then produced a dominant display against Mwamba RFC, cruising to a 36-5 victory. Beldad Ogeta was the standout performer, dotting down twice before turning provider for Daniel Kipchirchir. John Okoth and Nelson Makhoha also crossed, while Alvin Khavoli added the icing on the cake. Mwamba managed a late consolation through Baron but were outclassed throughout.

Daystar Falcons joined the semis after holding off a resilient Nakuru RFC in a tense 12-10 finish. Cyprian Ombasso’s brace for Nakuru was not enough as Patrick Odongo’s double proved decisive for the students.

The clash of the round came between KCB and Strathmore. Vincent Onyala and Brian Mwendwa’s early scores gave the bankers control, before Strathmore fought back through Samuel Wafula. However, George Ooro, a former Strathmore man had the final say, crossing twice to secure KCB’s narrow 15-14 win and end his old club’s campaign.

With that victory, KCB were mathematically crowned champions of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit, sealing the title before the semifinals, where they were set to join Kabras, Oilers, and Daystar.
