Onyala: Lessons from Embu Drove KCB to Kabeberi 4-Peat

KCB Rugby captain Vincent Onyala has credited his team’s resilience and willingness to learn from past mistakes for their latest triumph at the Kabeberi 7s. The bankers underlined their dominance by clinching a fourth consecutive title at the RFUEA Grounds on Sunday, a result that also put them within touching distance of the National 7s Circuit crown.

Speaking to Two5four media on Sunday evening, the Shujaa captain said the victory was more than just another trophy. It was about character, self-belief, and growth.

“Coming to this leg we had to pick up the scalps and the results have spoken,” Onyala reflected after lifting the cup.

“We had to pick our lessons that were really hard from last week (Embu 7s). Playing above the officials really gave us an edge in terms of executing our individual roles. At the end of the day, we had much to reap from it.” he offered.

The win pushed KCB to 104 points at the top of the circuit standings. With just the Dala 7s left, Onyala and his teammates need only to go past quarterfinal in Kisumu to seal the overall championship, a fitting reward for a season defined by consistency.

This also marked KCB’s sixth Kabeberi crown in history, with previous wins in 2008, 2014, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

For Onyala, however, the focus is clear: “It’s about finishing strong. Kisumu is where we want to cap this journey.”he voiced.
