Menengai Oilers ended their day one campaign on the right footing recording 100% win record to advance jnto cup quarters in style with a statement victory over archrivals Kabras Sugar.

Dan Chirchir was the hero in the tense Pool C decider, crossing for the game’s only try in the 5-0 win that lifted Oilers.

Earlier in the day, the Nakuru-based outfit had battled past Daystar Falcons 15-12 before seeing off Ruga Ruga Select 26-7.

KCB Rugby, perennial contenders in the National Sevens Circuit, also maintained their 100% record, brushing aside Nondescripts 35-12, blanking KU Blak Blad 38-0 and edging Mwamba RFC 19-12 in the day’s final clash.

Strathmore Leos looked sharp in Pool A, recovering from their opening-round scare against Zetech Oaks to beat MSC Rugby 26-5 before edging Kenya Harlequin 26-22 in a thrilling evening showdown. Their three straight wins left them in prime position heading into the knockout stages.

Catholic Monks, who continue to grow in stature on the circuit, joined the elite company with an unbeaten run in Pool B. They thumped Impala 33-5, dispatched MMUST 24-5 and held Nakuru RFC to a dramatic 7-7 stalemate to finish top of their group.

Elsewhere, Quins, Daystar Falcons and Nondies managed two wins each but stumbled at key moments, while Kabras – despite a strong start – faltered against Oilers and Daystar to miss out on a perfect record.

With the knockout stages set, all eyes will be on whether the unbeaten quartet can carry their momentum into day two, or if the chasing pack will find their spark in the high-stakes Cup quarterfinals.
