New Two-Conference Format Announced for 2025/2026 ESS

The Kenya Rugby Union has unveiled a revamped structure for the 2025/2026 Eric Shirley Shield, introducing a two-conference format designed to enhance competition and streamline the pathway to the semi-finals and finals.

Under the new system, teams have been divided into the Eastern and Western Conferences, where they will compete through the regular season.

The Eastern Conference features KCB, Nondescripts, KU Blak Blad, Harlequins, Strathmore, Impala, and Daystar Falcons.The Western Conference brings together Kabras Sugar, Defending champions Menengai Oilers, Nakuru RFC, Kisumu RFC, and MMUST RFC.

At the conclusion of regular-season fixtures, the top two teams from each conference will qualify for the semi-finals. The matchups will pit the Eastern Conference winner against the Western Conference runner-up, while the Western Conference winner faces the Eastern Conference runner-up.

Winners of these clashes will advance to the grand final to contest the coveted Eric Shirley Shield title.

This format aims to balance competition across regions while maintaining a fair and exciting route to the finals. With club depth set to be tested and rivalries refreshed, the new-look Eric Shirley Shield promises an engaging season for players, fans, and clubs alike.
