As the countdown to the 2025 Safari Sevens gathers momentum, the unveiling of the Kenya Lionesses and Morans squads has sparked excitement across the local rugby clubs as teams give rise to new talent.

Lionesses:

The Kenya Lionesses, the pride of women’s rugby, have once again drawn their strength from a cross-section of local clubs with sourcing going down the grassroots making a first call from Likoni and NYS Ladies.

The national champions Mwamba RFC are leading the charge, contributing seasoned names like Naomi Amuguni, Sinaida Nyachio, Edith Nariaka, and Faith Livoi, ensuring a spine of experience and grit.

The Kenya Harlequin has set a dynamic duo featuring Sheila Chajira and Moreen Muritu spicing up a tactical flair, with Impala’s Christabel Lindo bringing pace and precision.

Faith Achieng from the Northern Suburbs and Marvel Oswago from Likoni represent the fast-rising community clubs making their mark on the national stage alongside NYS’s Charity Nillah.

Nakuru’s Freshia Awino anchors the pack with her power game. Rounding off the team is the ever-reliable Janet “JJ” Okelo, listed as unattached but carrying years of international experience having a background in the Japanese side Magato Blue Angels, a leader both on and off the pitch.

The Lionesses’ blend of veterans and fresh faces paints a picture of a well-distributed, balanced side proof that women’s rugby talent now thrives far beyond Nairobi’s traditional strongholds.

Morans:

On the men’s side, the Kenya Morans selection highlights Kenya’s next generation of sevens stars, handpicked from the country’s top clubs and Varsity sides.

Strathmore Leos has emerged as a powerhouse contributor with Barnabas Owuor, Elton Amalemba, Victor Mola, and Arnold Muita all earning call-ups bearing proof of a solid university talent.

Menengai Oilers, consistent performers in the 2024-2025 Kenya Cup, contribute John Okoth and a new face, Daniel Kipchirchir, set to bring athleticism and finishing power to the side.

Kabras Sugar RFC, Kenya Cup reigning champions, are well represented by Brian Mutua and Rayvon Ambale, whose form this season has been nothing short of electric.

The bankers side has brought on board Elvis Olukusi with Mwamba RFC Eugine Ojiambo adding muscle and versatility to the pack.

Daystar University has set on board a youthful pairing consisting of Clinton Amukwachi and Arnold Agonda as they continue to underline the growing influence of student rugby.
