Kenya’s second-string men’s sevens side, the Morans, are scheduled to travel to Harare next week for the Zambezi Challenge Sevens, which will run from 8–9 November 2025.
Fresh from securing a third-place finish at the 2025 Safari Sevens held at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium earlier this month, the Morans will look to build on that performance as they test themselves against regional opposition on foreign soil.
The tournament will feature hosts Zimbabwe, who are expected to field both their main side and a development squad, as well as Zambia, Botswana, and several South African franchise teams.
Head coach Kevin Wambua, expressed optimism ahead of the trip, noting that the competition offers valuable continuity following the team’s showing at the Safari Sevens.
“We are building from the Safari 7s and the preparations have been good. The priority over the last two weeks has been based on performance from Safari 7s and how we can build from it,” Wambua said in comments carried on the Kenya Rugby Union’s official website.
“The boys have responded well so far and the objective is to give them confidence in their abilities and a little bit of tactical and technical upskill. The tournament is more about the team than an individual player.”
The Morans enjoyed success against Zimbabwe at the Safari Sevens, winning 27–7 in the group stages and 19–0 in the third-place playoff.
The squad for Harare will be announced in the coming days, with the team expected to depart Nairobi on Thursday.
