Menengai Oilers Stalwart “Salamander” Finds New Home in Canada

Former Menengai Oilers ace Clinton Odhiambo, fondly known as Salamander, has taken another bold step in his rugby career after signing with Burnaby Lake Rugby Club in Canada. Burnaby Lake, the reigning BC Premiership champions, are among the most decorated sides in British Columbia and compete in the country’s top-flight rugby league.

Odhiambo, Oilers’ longest-serving player, bid farewell to the Nakuru-based side in February 2024, closing an illustrious 10-year chapter where he cemented his place as one of the club’s most reliable backs. Shortly after, he secured a move to Ontario with St. George’s London Rugby Club, where he immediately impressed scoring seven tries in eleven matches during his debut season and helping the side lift the Marshall Championship title.

That blistering form attracted Burnaby Lake’s attention, leading to his switch to the Vancouver-based giants. The move ushers in a new chapter for Odhiambo, placing him in one of Canada’s most competitive rugby landscapes.

Reflecting on his journey, Odhiambo admitted leaving Oilers was a difficult decision but one he made for growth.

“Leaving Oilers was one of the hardest decisions of my life because that club is family to me. But rugby is about growth and new challenges, and I’m grateful for the opportunity Canada has given me. St. George’s was a great stepping stone, and now joining Burnaby Lake, a top side with a rich history, is a dream. I’m ready to give my all and keep flying the Kenyan flag high.”he told two5four media.

Odhiambo announced his arrival in style, making his debut for Burnaby Lake last weekend in a thrilling 30–30 draw against UBC. He dotted down once and was named man of the match in his very first outing.
