The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially invited schools across the country to participate in the 2026 edition of the prestigious Prescott Cup, a tournament long regarded as the backbone of Kenya’s school rugby development pathway.
In a circular dated 23rd January 2026 and signed by the Director of Rugby and Pathways Manager Paul Odera, KRU expressed appreciation for the schools’ continued commitment to nurturing rugby talent in line with the national development agenda.
Established in 1962, the Prescott Cup remains one of Kenya’s oldest and most respected secondary school rugby competitions. According to the Union, the tournament has been a vital pipeline for talent development, with over 80% of players currently representing Kenya Shujaa and the Kenya Simbas having risen through high school rugby structures.
KRU highlighted the numerous benefits associated with participation in the tournament, including weekly national exposure through KRU media platforms, access to internationally recognised training and certification for teachers and coaches, enhanced delivery of sports under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), and increased player development opportunities such as scholarship pathways and entry into national talent databases.
This year’s tournament is scheduled to run from 4th May to 20th June 2026, with participating schools grouped into regional clusters to reduce travel costs. A physical planning meeting for all registered schools will be held at the KRU offices on 1st April 2026 to finalize fixtures and logistics.
Schools intending to join the competition are required to submit their registration via the provided online form by 31st March 2026.
For inquiries, KRU directed schools to reach Development Manager Ronald Okoth and Committee Secretary Joseph Guchu.
