The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), in partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD) and the French Rugby Federation (FFR), has unveiled a new initiative aimed at promoting women’s rugby and social inclusion across the country.

The program, announced on November 7, 2025, seeks to empower women through rugby by providing professional training opportunities for coaches, referees, and administrators.

Set to take place at the Institute of Monetary Studies in Nairobi from November 16 to 23, the week-long training will host 30 women participants, ten each in coaching, officiating and administration. The program will provide full board accommodation, though participants will cater for their transport.

KRU Training and Education Manager George Ndemi emphasized that the collaboration aligns with broader efforts to use rugby as a tool for empowerment, particularly among youth and women. He noted that the initiative will also help address gender inequality and promote rugby’s values within disadvantaged communities.

Affiliates across the country have been urged to nominate deserving candidates or allow interested women to apply directly. The partnership marks a significant step toward strengthening the foundation of women’s rugby and ensuring greater representation in leadership and technical roles.
