After weeks of speculation surrounding his future, former Impala RFC head coach Louis Kisia has finally broken his silence, setting the record straight on why he parted ways with the Red Shirts after just one season at the helm.
During an exclusive interview with Two5Four Rugby, Louis Kisia revealed his exit was mutual and free of tension.
“It’s true my contract lapsed in September this year and we opted not to renew,” Kisia confirmed.
“It was an amicable agreement between myself and the club. Luckily, I left them my assistant, Jackson Katunga, whom I’ve worked with for the last seven years. We also worked together at Strathmore Leos, and he will continue alongside the new technical team.”he offered.
Kisia, who also serves as assistant coach for Kenya Sevens (Shujaa), said his immediate focus is preparing the national team for Sevens II in February, with the ultimate goal of helping Shujaa regain World Rugby Sevens Series Division 1 status in the 2026/27 season.
“In regard to local clubs, nothing yet is on my table, but I’m always open to offers,” he added.
“I’ll see what suits me best when the time comes. For now, I just want to take a small break, rejuvenate, refresh, and maybe play a bit of golf whenever I’m out of rugby.”
Reflecting on his one-year stint at Impala, Kisia described it as a “learning curve” and a valuable experience despite resource challenges.
“My stay has been a learning experience, though not what I was used to at Strathmore in terms of resources, we soldiered on and did our part to survive in the Kenya Cup. In Sevens, we also ensured the next series they’ll start in Division One rather than being invited for Division Two, which is something positive for us,” he said.
He also expressed pride in nurturing young talent during his tenure.
“We built some good players, like David Nyangige, who now plays for the national team, and other lads who are playing good rugby. I hope that by the end of the season, they’ll be knocking on the doors of the national team in Sevens or 15s, or even the junior sides,” Kisia noted.
Impala will kick off their 2025/26 Kenya Cup campaign away to KCB, beginning a new chapter without Kisia.
