South Coast Pirates head coach Tony Khadambi says his side is ready to begin their KRU Championship campaign with purpose as they host newly promoted Kisii RFC this Saturday at the Seacrest grounds,Diani.
Speaking to Two5four, Khadambi, who takes charge of the Pirates for the first time in a competitive match, believes the squad has shown renewed energy and hunger during pre-season.
“We’re excited to kick off our Championship season at home against Kisii. A new season brings fresh energy, fresh hunger and a chance for a clean page from last season. This group of lads are ready to write their own story,” he said.
The ex Kenya Harlquin forward expects a tough challenge from Kisii but trusts the work his team has put in.
“Kisii come in with momentum and belief. We expect a hard and physical contest, but we trust the work we’ve done leading to this point,” he added.
The Pirates have experienced changes in personnel, with some two senior players departing, Collins Kabayo crossed over to Menengai Oilers while Hafidh Mohammed joined KCB RFC, but Khadambi is encouraged by the young talent stepping up.
“This younger squad has shown maturity, discipline and a willingness to grow together. Our focus is to take it one game at a time, lean on our systems and play with intent,” he explained.
The coach also outlined clear ambitions for the season.
“Our targets remain clear, a playoffs spot. We’re rebuilding our identity, sharpening our systems and developing players who can compete at the highest level. If we stay committed week in and week out, the results will follow,” he said.
Pirates will aim to start strong as they embark on their journey back toward top-tier contention.
