Kenya Lionesses Edge Uganda to Reach Africa Women’s 7s Final

The Kenya Lionesses booked their place in the 2025 Africa Women’s Sevens final after a tense 17-10 victory over rivals Uganda in a dramatic semi-final at the RFUEA Grounds.

Uganda got off to a bright start, opening the scoring through Peace Lekuru with an unconverted try to take a 5-0 lead. Kenya responded through winger Freshia Oduor, who pounced on a turnover to level matters at 5-5. Freshia struck again moments later, slicing through the defence to give Kenya a 10-5 advantage heading into halftime.

The second half saw Uganda claw their way back, leveling the scores at 10-10 as the intensity heightened. But in true Lionesses fashion, Naomi Amuguni stepped up in the dying moments, grounding the match-winning try to seal a 15-10 victory for Kenya.

Earlier in the quarterfinals, Kenya powered past Zimbabwe 33-12, while Uganda convincingly defeated Tunisia 31-12.

Kenya will now face South Africa in the final after the Bok Women swept aside Madagascar with a clinical 29-0 win. The showdown promises fireworks, especially with South Africa having edged Kenya 12-07 in last year’s final in Ghana.

All eyes now turn to the RFUEA Grounds as the Lionesses chase continental glory and revenge against the defending champions
