Kenya’s national men’s rugby sevens side, Shujaa, touched down in Cape Town, South Africa, this afternoon, as preparations gather pace ahead of the 2026 SVNS Division 2 season.
The South Africa tour is a key phase in Shujaa’s build-up as they seek a return to the top tier of the World Rugby Sevens Series following the revised competition format. The squad is expected to undergo intense high-performance training and test matches against quality opposition to sharpen combinations and match fitness.
Kenya will later host an historic SVNS Division 2 event on home soil for the first time, with the opening leg set for 14–15 February at Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi. The series will then move to Montevideo, Uruguay (21–22 March) before concluding in São Paulo, Brazil (28–29 March).
SVNS Division 2 features six teams per gender competing across three tournaments. The top four teams will advance to the SVNS World Championship to face the top eight Division 1 sides in the final legs in Hong Kong, Valladolid and Bordeaux. From the 12 combined teams, the top eight finishers will earn Division 1 status for the 2027 SVNS season.
Both Shujaa and the Kenya Lionesses will compete in SVNS Division 2 in 2026, with confirmed men’s teams including Kenya, USA, Uruguay and Germany.
