Following the dominant 74-14 win over the varsity side Strathmore Leos before the festivity holiday, standing third on the Kenya Cup log, KCB head coach Andrew Amonde has revealed his side is focused on refining key tactical areas as the Kenya Cup season resumes after the festive break, stressing the need for clarity, cohesion and improved execution across all departments
“We want better execution of our game model, particularly accuracy and tempo in our phases, with improved decision making under pressure,” Amonde said. “Defensively, we’re looking at stronger organisation line speed, communication, and more effective one-on-one tackles. We also want smarter use of territory, better kicking options and more contestable chases. Above all, we need cohesion and discipline across the full 80 minutes.”
With the squad returning refreshed, Amonde emphasised the need to quickly regain competitive rhythm. He highlighted alignment and timing in attack, structural discipline in defence, and consistent set-piece execution as top priorities.
“In attack, we’re focusing on alignment, timing and decision making so we play with clarity and continuity,” he explained. “Defensively, structure, communication and line speed are crucial to regaining our identity. In the set pieces, accuracy at the restart, scrum and lineout will give us the platform we need.”
Looking ahead to a busy block of fixtures, the former Kenya Sevens international underlined the importance of smart player management and squad rotation to sustain performance.
“Squad rotation will be very important as we balance performance, recovery and injury prevention,” he noted. “We’ll rotate intelligently to keep players fresh while maintaining a strong core group for continuity. Managing individual loads and giving opportunities where they add value is key. The goal is to keep standards high and ensure the team functions seamlessly regardless of changes.”
