KCB Edge Strathmore in Nail-Biting Final to Clinch 2025 Driftwood 7s Title

KCB Rugby are the 2025 Driftwood 7s champions after narrowly defeating Strathmore Leos 15-14 in a gripping Cup final played at the Mombasa Sports Club on Sunday evening.

From the first whistle, KCB came out roaring with purpose. Elvis Olukusi opened the score with a determined finish, though the conversion attempt drifted wide. The Lions weren’t done yet, Floyd Wabriwe lit up the crowd with an electrifying solo run from midfield, slicing through Leos’ defense to ground a wide try. Olukusi then returned to the spotlight, bulldozing through contact for his brace. By halftime, KCB looked firmly in control, leading 15-0.

Strathmore Leos stormed back into the game after the break. Barnabas Owuor reignited Leos’ hopes with a smartly executed try right under the posts, which was calmly converted to reduce the deficit to 15-7. The pressure mounted as Strathmore turned the screw a high tackle near the try line saw them awarded a penalty try with just minutes to play.

Still, KCB’s experience and discipline showed as they held firm in the dying moments to claim a 15-14 victory.
