Kakamega School Edge Butula to Launch Western Region KSSSA Games in Style

Kakamega School made a strong statement in their opening fixture of the Western Region KSSSA Rugby Games, edging out Butula Boys 12-0 in a disciplined and hard-fought encounter at Chavakali High School earlier this morning.

The Kakamega County champions wasted no time settling into the match, with Fame Wekesa crossing over for the opening try. However, the conversion attempt drifted wide, leaving the score at 5-0 heading into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Amos Wamanga-led side returned with renewed intent, showing greater hunger and control as they pushed to extend their advantage. Their persistence paid off when Samwel Mwangi touched down for Kakamega’s second try, further tightening their grip on the match.

Austin Shuma stepped up and calmly slotted the conversion, stretching the lead to 12-0. From there, Kakamega showcased solid defensive organization, shutting out Butula Boys and preserving a clean sheet to secure a winning start to their campaign.

The Barbarians will now turn their attention to their next Pool B clash against Bokoli Boys, scheduled for 3 PM, as they look to build momentum in the tournament.

Elsewhere, Vihiga School battled to a 14-14 draw against Bungoma High in a closely contested fixture, while St Peter’s Mumias overcame Amukura 12-3. In another tight encounter, Senende Boys edged Bokoli Boys 6-3.
