Kabras RFC hammer Strathmore Leos to stay perfect

Kenya Cup defending champions Kabras RFC produced a ruthless attacking display to brush aside Strathmore Leos 81-21 in a Friday kick-off match played at the ASK Kakamega Showground.

The match was preceded by a minute of silence in honour of the late Felix Ouma Chano before the hosts quickly took control. After five minutes of sustained pressure, Alfred Orege beat his man on the outside and offloaded to Teddy Adaka, who touched down for the opening try, although Eric Cantona missed the conversion.

Kabras’ forwards then took charge, recycling possession efficiently inside the red zone. Walter Okoth linked up with Patrick Sabatia, who powered over for the second try, with Cantona converting for a 12-0 lead. Teddy Akala added a third from close range as Kabras dominated territory and possession.

Strathmore briefly responded when Elton Amalemba finished off a wide move for a converted try, but Kabras struck back immediately through Okoth, who showed his pace after a pass from Valerian Tendwa. Another powerful scrum set the platform for Kabras’ fifth try, Okoth finishing in the corner for a 29-7 advantage.

David Bunduki added another converted try before halftime, though Strathmore had the final say of the half when Arnold Muita intercepted and scored to make it 36-14 at the break.

Kabras resumed with the same intensity, Mathias Osimbo diving over under the posts before Cantona crossed following slick backline movement. Despite a try from Nahashon Mwangemi for Strathmore, Kabras remained relentless.

Second-half scores from Eugine Sifuna, Osimbo, Okoth, Sabatia and William Mwanji capped a dominant performance, with Cantona adding the extras to seal an emphatic 81-21 win, a fifth for the millers this season.
