Defending Kenya cup champions Kabras Sugar Rugby will step up their preparations for the new Kenya Cup season when they host Kisumu RFC in a pre-season friendly tomorrow, Saturday 15th, at the ASK Kakamega Showgrounds.
With just a week to go before the league kicks off, the title holders will be looking to sharpen their systems and assess player readiness as they gear up for their title-defense campaign.
The Carlos Katywa led outfit will open their season with a much-anticipated Kakamega derby against promoted neighbours MMUST RFC, a fixture expected to draw huge local interest.
For Kisumu RFC, this will be their second warm-up fixture after facing MMUST a fortnight ago also in Kakamega. The Lakeside outfit, now under the leadership of former South Coast Pirates head coach Howard Okwemba, will be using the clash to iron out remaining gaps ahead of a tough start to their Kenya Cup journey.
Kisumu will kick off their league campaign away in Nairobi against Nondies before returning home to face giants KCB in their second outing, a demanding schedule that makes tomorrow’s test all the more vital.
Both sides are expected to field competitive squads as they seek momentum and clarity heading into the 2025/26 Kenya Cup season.
Rugby fans in Kakamega can look forward to a spirited duel as the two sides look to measure their readiness ahead of what promises to be another thrilling campaign.
