JKUAT Cougars showcased impressive form in a series of pre-season friendlies played on Saturday at the Kenyatta University (KU) grounds, signaling their readiness for the upcoming 2025/26 rugby campaign set to begin on November 16.
Fielding two sides, JKUAT 1 and JKUAT 2, the Juja-based outfit dominated their fixtures against strong opposition that included KU (Black Blad), Administration Police (AP), and Kenya Police.
JKUAT 1 registered three wins, beginning with a 23-0 victory over Kenya Police before edging hosts KU 1 by 14-7. They wrapped up their fine run with a 17-0 triumph over KU 2.
In the clash against KU 1, utility back Masinga Ooko was the standout performer, scoring the decisive tries for JKUAT. Earlier, against Kenya Police, Fanuel Icheche, Raphael Wambayi, Karl Omitto, and Edwin Mageto all crossed the whitewash in a dominant display.
Meanwhile, JKUAT 2 endured a tougher outing, going down 12-0 to KU 1 and 10-0 to AP in competitive fixtures that offered valuable exposure for their developing players.
The friendlies served as crucial tune-ups for the respective sides ahead of their new season campaigns, JKUAT preparing for the KRU Championship, AP for the Nationwide League, and hosts KU (Black Blad) gearing up for another Kenya Cup season.
