Impala RFC Coach Malik Ndemi Confident Despite Rocky Start to Kenya Cup Season

Newly appointed Impala RFC head coach Malik Ndemi remains optimistic about the club’s Kenya Cup campaign despite back-to-back heavy defeats in the Kenya cup league.

Speaking to Two5four after their 97-6 loss to Kenya cup finalists Menengai Oilers, Ndemi expressed confidence in the squad’s potential.

“We will reach the playoffs, we only need to win five games and we are heading there. The good thing is that we have started the season with the top three and I’m happy. The other eight teams will know who Impala is,” Ndemi said.

When asked if he was concerned about the results so far, the coach remained calm.

“Transition takes time. We are looking at staying in Kenya Cup, there’s nothing to worry about. When I was called to come in, I found a good team and we will do amazing things together,” he added.

Impala began the season with an 87-5 loss to KCB, followed by the heavy defeat to Menengai Oilers. The team now faces defending champions Kabras RFC in Kakamega in what will be their third match of the season.

The club has also experienced significant leadership changes, with former head coach Louis Kisia stepping down weeks ago, followed shortly after by his assistant Jackson Kalonje. Ndemi now inherits the task of stabilizing the team and steering them toward a competitive season.
