High-Flying Pirates School USIU at Seacrest Grounds

South Coast Pirates extended their perfect start to the Championship season with a 37-07 victory over USIU yesterday at the Seacrest Grounds, sealing back-to-back wins under head coach Tony Khadambi.

Pirates were on the front foot from the opening whistle, with fullback Keneth Omaset diving over for the first try, though the conversion went wide. The hosts kept the tempo high, and winger Brighton Omondi soon added the second, finishing off a flowing phase of play to stretch the lead.

Scrum-half Ali Rashid then took charge of the contest, slicing through the USIU defence twice to secure his brace, sending Pirates into the halftime break with a healthy 20-00 advantage.

The dominance continued after the restart. Brian Kimani sparked the second-half surge with a well-worked try, before long-serving centre Joseph Musyoki marked his day with a touchdown of his own. The ever-reliable Ibrahim Nyongesa added another that was converted by flyhalf Abubakar Athman, sealing a commanding seven-try display.

USIU managed a consolation converted try late in the game, but the damage had long been done as Pirates wrapped up a convincing 37-07 win.

The result marks the second consecutive victory for Khadambi’s charges, following their gritty 25-11 win over Western Bulls last weekend. The league now heads into a short break, after which Pirates will make a short trip to Mombasa to for a tough match against rivals Mombasa RFC on 10th January.
