Kabras Sugar RFC have appointed Thomas “Majei” Simiyu as their new fowards coach, a significant addition to their technical bench as they gear up for the 2025/26 Kenya Cup season.
Majei, a former Kabras player, brings a wealth of coaching experience from his successful stints with Webuye RFC, the Nakuru Rugby development side, and Nakuru Ladies Rugby. His coaching résumé features impressive achievements, including winning the 2023 Webuye 10-Aside, finishing second in the Western Edition of BingwaFest with Webuye RFC, clinching both the 10-Aside and Prinsloo age-grade titles with the Nakuru development team, placing third at the Rift Valley BingwaFest men’s category, and guiding Nakuru Ladies to the BingwaFest Rift Valley crown.
Speaking to Two5four, Majei expressed his gratitude to the Kabras management and head coach Carlos Katywa for believing in his abilities.
“Our target is to retain the Kenya Cup and all competitions we will be participating in. I am a former Kabras player, and Coach Carlos has been watching me working with development sides, so when the opportunity came he considered working with me,” he said.
He added that his rise through grassroots and development rugby has equipped him for the challenge ahead, and he is ready to inject fresh ideas into Kabras’ dynamic pack.
Majei joins a seasoned fowards coaching unit alongside Max Adaka and Geoffrey Meso, further enhancing Kabras’ technical depth as the sugar millers prepare for another title push.
The appointment comes just weeks after Kabras named former Kisii School coach Lee Arsto as their new backs coach. The defending Kenya Cup champions opened their 2025/26 campaign in style with a commanding 67–06 victory over neighbours MMUST in Kakamega and will be on the road this coming weekend.
