Former England captain Owen Farrell has been left out of Steve Borthwick’s 36-man training squad ahead of next month’s Autumn Nations Series.
Farrell, who featured for the British and Irish Lions in midfield during the summer, has not been included despite England facing selection challenges at inside centre due to injuries. The squad will convene for a three-day training camp at Pennyhill Park to intensify preparations for the November internationals.
Also missing from the squad is number eight Tom Willis, who had established himself as England’s first-choice option in the position. His move from Saracens to Bordeaux Bègles in the French Top 14 has rendered him ineligible for international duty under Rugby Football Union (RFU) regulations that restrict the selection of overseas-based players.
In contrast, there’s a first inclusion for Noah Caluori, the 19-year-old Saracens flyer who made headlines after scoring five tries in last weekend’s Gallagher Premiership victory over Sale Sharks. Caluori joins the group as an additional player under a development arrangement between England Rugby and the Premiership clubs.
England’s campaign kicks off against Australia at Twickenham on 1 November, followed by Tests against Fiji, New Zealand, and Argentina across successive weekends.
Head coach Steve Borthwick is expected to use the upcoming camp to fine-tune combinations and assess form players as England builds toward a busy international window.
