Falcons Edge Masinde Muliro in Kakamega Thriller

The Daystar Falcons kept their Kenya Cup survival hopes alive with a dramatic 20–19 victory over Masinde Muliro in a rescheduled clash played in Kakamega on Saturday, 7 February 2026.

In a contest decided by the finest of margins, Masinde Muliro’s dependable kicker Flavian Otiyo saw his last-gasp conversion attempt cannon off the posts — a cruel twist that handed the visitors a priceless win.

Daystar struck first through Augustine Owino’s unconverted try, but Otiyo responded with two well-taken penalties to edge the hosts 6–5 ahead midway through the opening half.

The Falcons regained control with tries from Eddy Wambugu and Chris Obuya, stretching their lead to 15–6. Yet Masinde Muliro refused to fade, and Otiyo crossed for an unconverted try on the stroke of halftime to narrow the gap to 15–11.

Otiyo continued to influence proceedings after the restart, slotting another penalty to bring the hosts within a point at 15–14 and setting up a tense finish.

Nathan Tsindoli’s try secured a crucial bonus point for Daystar and extended their advantage, but the drama was far from over. Musa Mugandi crashed over late to bring Masinde Muliro within a single point at 20–19, leaving Otiyo with one final shot at glory.

His conversion attempt struck the uprights and bounced away, sealing a dramatic escape for the Falcons — who build on their recent upset of Nakuru with another vital result in their fight to stay afloat.
