The stage is set for an action-packed weekend of rugby sevens as the Eastern Region edition of the Betika-sponsored Bingwa Fest kicks off from 17th to 19th October at Machakos Teachers Training College, ASK Show Grounds Machakos, and Kenyatta Stadium.
All eyes will be on Daystar University, who come into the tournament as favorites following their impressive form during the National Sevens Circuit. They headline Pool A, where they’ll face Catholic Monks Development, Embu University, and Africa Nazarene University in what promises to be a competitive group.
Pool B features hosts Machakos University, alongside National Youth Service Yatta, SEKU Vipers, and Embu Rugby. Over in Pool C, it’s KCA University, Northern Suburbs, Portland Stormers, and KMTC Makueni battling for supremacy, while Pool D brings together Makueni Rugby, Co-operative University, Masaku Rugby, and Kitengela Morans.
The stakes are high with Ksh 1 million up for grabs for the winners, while the runners-up and third-place finishers will pocket Ksh 500,000 and Ksh 250,000 respectively.
This marks the third leg of this season’s Bingwa Fest circuit, following successful tournaments in Nakuru (Rift Valley Region) and Siaya County (Nyanza Region).
