Coast Rugby Fraternity Set to Host Touch Rugby Festival

The Coast rugby community will come together in celebration of unity, growth and shared purpose when the Mwambao Touch Rugby Festival takes centre stage on December 27 at Shanzu Annex, the home ground of Shanzu Marlins, the region’s newest Nationwide League rugby side.

The festival is designed as a reunion for the Coast rugby fraternity, a space to reconnect, network and collectively shape the future of the game in the region. Organisers are targeting 16 senior men’s teams, 8 ladies’ teams, and six age-grade teams in each category, making it a truly inclusive event that cuts across generations and genders.

Touch rugby, has been deliberately chosen to encourage participation, enjoyment and interaction, with the emphasis firmly on togetherness rather than competition alone.

Tournament organiser Edwin Kagota, who also serves as the Coast Rugby Referees Treasurer, says the festival is about building bridges within the Coast rugby ecosystem and creating a platform for open conversations on how to move the region forward.

“This is a get-together for the entire Coast rugby family. We want to reconnect, share ideas and forge a clear way forward for rugby in the region, while giving players a fun and relaxed environment to express themselves,” Kagota said.

As preparations gather pace, the organising team is also appealing to well-wishers, partners and supporters to come on board and hold hands with them in delivering a successful event.
