Chavakali High School’s rugby team has received a timely boost after alumnus Ronald Ngoda, through his company Pay Hero, donated a new set of jerseys to the team ahead of the upcoming term one KSSSA school games next year.
Ngoda, who completed his studies at Chavakali in 2015, may not have played rugby during his school days, but his passion for the sport and love for his alma mater inspired the gesture.
Pay Hero is a financial technology company that provides automated reconciliation solutions for businesses, enabling smooth tracking and reporting of payments from M-Pesa to bank accounts, paybills, or tills.
Speaking during the handover, Chavakali Rugby coach Brian Walumbe expressed gratitude to Ngoda and his company for the support, noting the donation’s impact on the players’ morale.
“A donated jersey shows that someone believes in them, especially an alumnus or sponsor,” Walumbe told Two5four Rugby.
“It tells the boys that their efforts are being noticed and that others care about their journey. This validation boosts confidence and encourages them to give their best on and off the field. If an old boy could believe in us enough to buy us jerseys, then we can’t let him down.”he offered.
Ngoda’s contribution adds to a growing trend of former students giving back to their schools, a move that not only strengthens alumni ties but also nurtures the spirit of mentorship and community among young athletes.
Chavakali will be hoping for a strong campaign this season after falling short in both formats last term. They were eliminated by Vihiga High School in the county semifinals of the 15s competition, while in the 7s version, they bowed out at the regional quarterfinals against Bungoma High School, who went on to reach the East Africa semifinals.
