Canada has officially secured its place at the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027 in Australia following a strong campaign in the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup 2025. The North American side joins Fiji, Tonga, and Japan as the fourth Pacific nation to punch their ticket to rugby’s biggest stage.
“We’ve Achieved Our Goal”
Canada’s qualification was confirmed following Japan’s 47–21 win over the USA, which sealed the final Pool B standings. Canada’s campaign began on a high note with a 34–20 victory over the USA in Calgary. Despite a 57–15 loss to Japan in Sendai, the team’s early momentum was enough to finish second in Pool B and advance to the semi-finals alongside Japan.
“Securing our spot at the World Cup was our primary objective, and we’ve achieved it. Now it’s about building on this momentum,” said [Canadian coach/player quote if available].
Pacific Nations Cup: A Gateway to RWC 2027
This year’s Pacific Nations Cup not only crowns a regional champion but also serves as a critical pathway to the expanded 24-team Rugby World Cup 2027. With Fiji and Japan already pre-qualified, the three highest-placed non-qualified teams earn direct passage to Australia.
Canada, a consistent participant in the Men’s Rugby World Cup (missing only 2023), will compete in their 10th tournament, aiming to replicate the knockout-stage success they last achieved in 1991.
Semi-Finals Await
With qualification secured, Canada now turns focus to the Pacific Nations Cup semi-finals in Denver, Colorado, where they will face Fiji. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:35 MT, USA.
Currently ranked 24th in the World Rugby Men’s Rankings, Canada will also prepare for the RWC 2027 draw in December 2025, where they will discover their pool-stage opponents.
Meanwhile, the USA will contest the fifth-place play-off against Samoa on 14 September, seeking a final route to World Cup qualification.
Australia 2027: A New Era
The Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027, running 1 October – 13 November 2027 in Australia, promises a fresh era of excitement. Featuring 24 teams, six pools of four, and a round of 16 for the first time, this expanded format is set to deliver high-octane action and unforgettable moments for rugby fans worldwide.
