Buyachi Hails Oilers’ Resilience After Defending 42nd Floodlit Title

Menengai Oilers players celebrate winning 2025 floodlit title.

Menengai Oilers fowards coach Lawi Buyachi has expressed his delight after his side successfully defended the 42nd edition of the Impala Floodlit Rugby Tournament, terming the win as a major boost to their 2025/26 Kenya cup campaign.

“Defending the 42nd edition of this coveted Cup means a lot to us. It sets precedence of how we should look at the entire 2025/2026 Kenya cup season,” he said in a post match interview with Two5four.

The defending champions edged out Nondescripts RFC 31-20 yesterday night at Impala grounds to lift the title for a second consecutive year.

Speaking on what the win says about his squad, the former South Coast Pirates tactician was full of praise for his players’ determination and composure under pressure.

“I give it to the boys for the resiliency. They dug so deep to deliver the results, and yes, the character was so immense,” he noted.

The victory also marks a positive start to the new season for the Nakuru-based side, who have now turned their attention to maintaining momentum heading into the Kenya Cup campaign.

“Hehehe, it’s a good feeling to be motivated in this way & again, to remain humble as the journey (25/26) starts,” he added with a smile.

Reflecting on the closely contested final, the Buyachi lauded Nondies’ performance, describing them as disciplined and well-organized opponents.

“Nondies, being a very rich & most successful club locally, came to the foray. They were the most disciplined & organised side on the day. We anticipated & they didn’t disappoint, we just stayed in the fight,” he said.

Asked about the key takeaways from the match, the tactician emphasized the importance of results while hinting at the team’s hunger for more success.

“My biggest aspect of the game is the win,and going forward, we just need more Ws,” he concluded.

Menengai Oilers will kick off their Kenya cup campaign with a home fixture against newly promoted Daystar Falcons on 22nd November.
